Content Code Guidance
Content Codes are any unique configuration of numbers and letters that help identify content in the LMS. Developing a strategy for content code naming conventions helps ensure that content is more easily organized and searchable.
· Create content codes that help identify multiple elements of the content.
o Examples:
§ [Client Code]-[Content Type]-[Short Title]-[Version]
§ [Department Code]-[Project Code]-[Number Label]
· Use a consistent naming structure for all content.
· Create a code structure that can be replicated regardless of content type.
· Choose short titles that clearly describe the content.
· Avoid spaces and special characters in content codes.
· Use the same structure for courses, tests, videos, and all other content items.
Best Practices
Creating a cohesive content code plan before loading content into the LMS, and creating category folders to align with these codes, creates an organized foundation upon which to build.
