General Settings — Student Notifications Tab Quick Reference Guide
Audience: Main Admin, Sub Admin
Overview
Use this QRG to enable in-platform student notifications for content, classroom/webinar sessions, learning tracks, certificates, certifications, and badges.
Enabled Permissions Required to Complete the Following Steps
- General Settings: Notifications
Note: User Group Admins do not have permission to access General Settings.
Steps to Enable Notifications
- From Admin Navigation, click General Settings.
- Click the Student Notifications tab.
- Click the Enable Notifications check box.
- Enter how many days the Notifications Show for. After days expire, unread notifications will not display to a user.
- Click Save Settings.
Steps to Set Specific Notifications
Choose from one to six of the notification categories below to set up LMS notifications.
Content
- Click the Content check box.
- Click the Content Item Assigned check box to send a notification to the student within five minutes after assignment.
- Click the Content Item Due Today check box to send a notification to the student on the day content is due to be completed. Note: This notification requires LMS daily tasks to run, so same-day notification is not possible.
- Click the Content Item Due In check box to send a notification to the student a specific number of days ahead of the completion due date.
- Enter the number of Days if Content Due Date In is checked.
Classroom/Webinar Sessions
- Click the Classroom/Webinar Sessions check box.
- Click the Session Starts Today check box to send a notification to the student the day a session is scheduled to start.
- Click the Moved from Waitlist to Roster check box to send a notification to the student that they have been moved to the session roster.
Learning Tracks
- Click the Learning Tracks check box.
- Click the Learning Track Assigned to User check box to send a notification to the student within five minutes after assignment.
- Click the Learning Track Updated check box to send a notification to the student within five minutes of adding or removing content from a learning track.
- Click the Learning Track Available check box to send a notification to the student if a learning track is available.
Certificates
- Click the Certificates check box.
- Click the Content Certificate Available check box to send a notification to the student within five minutes after the certificate is available. Note: If the Content Item Assigned and/or the Content Item Available notifications are enabled, users will only get a notification for the Content Certificate Available, when applicable.
- Click the Content Certificate Earned check box to send a notification to the student within one minute of completion of content with a certificate.
Certifications
- Click the Certifications check box.
- Click the Certification Assigned check box to send a notification to the student within five minutes of a certification being assigned to a student.
- Click the Certification Expires In check box to send a notification to the student a specific number of days ahead of the certification expiration date.
- Enter the number of Days if Certification Expires In is checked.
Badges
- Click the Badges check box.
- Click the Content/Learning Track Badge Available check box to send a notification to the student within five minutes of a piece of content with a badge being assigned or made available to the student. Note: If both the Content Item Assigned and/or the Content Item Available notifications are enabled, users will only get a notification for the Content Badge Available, when applicable.
- Click the Content/Learning Track Badge Earned to send a notification to the student within one minute of completion of content with a badge.
Click Save Settings when all the required notifications have been updated.
Best Practices
Set up notifications on a timely basis. Notifications are not sent retroactively. For instance, when a user is added to a User Group that has Content, Learning Track, or Certification assignments, they will not receive any notifications. But, if Content, Learning Track, or Certification assignments are added to a User Group, the members of that group will receive a notification.
